Amigos & Friends
‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God". Leviticus 19:33-34
Following Catholic social teaching in which “people have the right to migrate to sustain their lives and the lives of their families, our mission is: to teach English to local language minorities and work toward developing respectful relationships between them and their teachers (EIU students).
We believe that it is possible to build stronger communication skills at any age and in any language. Besides the classes, we also provide extended support (spiritual, medical & legal translations, sacramental preparation, & celebrations).
Make a New "Amigo"
Are you a night owl? Help someone learn English!
Through Amigos & Friends you can strengthen the English language skills of non-native speakers, build up their self-confidence, learn about their cultural background, and even make a new friend! Since most individuals we work with have full-time jobs that run late, Amigos & Friends is held Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:00 pm-11:15 pm. Starting day TBA.
Would you like to be a Friend (tutor)?
You would be suprised with how much you learn from your "Amigo"'s culture and traditions. You would find yourself with a new perspective on immigrants.
